LEGAL
Terms of Use
Effective 19 October 2026
Before you start
- A sealed capsule can’t be opened early. Not by you, not by our support team.
- Your key lives only in your iCloud. If you lose access to your iCloud Keychain, your capsules are lost for good. We can’t recover them.
- BackBack is a writing tool, not therapy or medical care.
1. About these terms
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Uluwatu OÜ, a private limited company registered in Estonia (registry code 17522607), Männimäe/1, Pudisoo küla, Kuusalu vald, 74626 Harju maakond, Estonia (“we”, “us”). They apply to the BackBack iOS app (the “App”) and the website getbackback.com. By downloading or using the App, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
These Terms are concluded between you and us only, not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”). We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content.
2. What BackBack is, and isn’t
BackBack helps you write out what is on your mind and let it go. When you finish a session, the App encrypts your writing and seals it as a capsule that opens again after the period you choose.
BackBack is not a medical device and doesn’t provide therapy, diagnosis, treatment or crisis support. If you are struggling or in danger, please contact a health professional or your local emergency number right away.
3. Who can use BackBack
You must be at least 13 years old to use BackBack. If you are under the age of majority or of digital consent where you live, you may use it only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. You need an Apple Account with iCloud enabled; we recommend turning on iCloud Keychain.
4. Your account
You sign in with Sign in with Apple. Keep your Apple Account and your devices secure: anyone who can unlock your iPhone and BackBack can read capsules that have already opened. You can turn on App Lock in the App’s settings.
5. Your writing
What you write is yours. It is encrypted on your device and stored in your own iCloud, and we never receive it, so we don’t need, and don’t take, any licence to it. You are responsible for what you write and for keeping your iCloud account available.
6. How capsules work, and their limits
Please read this section carefully, because it is what makes BackBack different:
- No early opening. Once a capsule is sealed, it can’t be opened before its unlock date, and its lock period can’t be shortened. We will not open a capsule early on request. The only exception is the shutdown commitment in section 12.
- Server time decides. The unlock date is calculated and checked by our server’s clock. Changing the date on your device has no effect.
- Sealing needs a connection. A capsule counts as sealed only after your iCloud and our server have both confirmed it. If you are offline, the App finishes sealing once you’re back online.
- Loss is permanent. No one but you holds a copy of your capsule key. Your capsules can’t be recovered if, for example, you lose access to your iCloud Keychain or your Apple Account, delete your iCloud data, delete a capsule, or delete your BackBack account. We can’t restore them in any of these cases.
- Opening needs our service. Opening a capsule requires our server to release its half of the key, so you need an internet connection on or after the unlock date.
7. Subscriptions
Some features of BackBack may require a paid, auto-renewing subscription. The price, billing period and what is included are shown in the App before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Your subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it ends when you buy a subscription.
- Purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests are handled by Apple under its policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com. This doesn’t limit any rights you have under consumer law.
- Capsules you sealed remain yours. If your subscription ends, capsules you have already sealed can still be opened on their unlock date.
We may change subscription prices; Apple will notify you in advance and, where required, ask for your consent.
8. Licence to use the App
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the App may also be used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the App except where the law allows it.
9. Acceptable use
Don’t use BackBack to break the law, to attack, overload or probe our servers, to get around the time lock or other security measures, or to access anyone else’s data.
10. Maintenance and support
We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support services for it. For help, contact us at info@uluwatu.ai.
11. Changes to BackBack
We may update, change or remove features. We will not change how an already sealed capsule can be opened in a way that makes it harder for you to open it on its date.
12. If BackBack shuts down
If we ever decide to discontinue BackBack, we will tell you at least 90 days in advance, in the App and on this website. Before our servers are switched off, we will make every sealed capsule openable regardless of its unlock date, so you can read and keep your writing.
13. Warranty
We provide BackBack with reasonable care, but to the extent permitted by law it is provided “as is” and we don’t promise that it will always be available or free of errors. We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the App to you, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to a warranty are our sole responsibility.
14. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for the loss of capsules in the situations described in section 6. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.
15. Claims
We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
If a third party claims that the App or your possession and use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
16. Legal compliance
You represent that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
17. Third-party terms
When using BackBack you must also comply with applicable third-party terms, such as Apple’s terms for your Apple Account and iCloud, and your mobile data plan.
18. Apple as third-party beneficiary
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. When you accept them, Apple will have the right, and will be deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
19. Ending these Terms
You can stop using BackBack and delete your account at any time from the App’s settings. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms. If we do so without a serious breach on your part, the shutdown commitment in section 12 applies to your sealed capsules.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the App before they take effect. If you don’t agree, you can stop using BackBack and delete your account.
21. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Estonia. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in the courts there.
